Episode 004: I Married An Arab
Updated: Feb 3, 2019
This episode was brought you by.. our Arab husbands!!
We are totally doing this show just for fun! We absolutely adore our husbands and the Arab culture, obviously! So this show is for fun and not meant to cause any sensitivity! We love you girls!
One of the fun things that comes to being married to an Arab family is the language. Monica shares how her husband’s name is Khaled and how depending on who she is talking to.. she literally has to change the accent of his name! For example, her Spanish family says it differently compared to his co-coworkers. Hello, Call-E-D! Haha!
Nicole’s family from the South met her husband, Hassan, for the first time they saw her in a scarf too! It went so smoothly as Nicole describes her husband as “hunky” and her family from the South totally agreed with her upon meeting him!
Arab food is such a part of our relationship. Monica’s hubby has a thing against her love for flavored hummus. And Nicole took a dive into the “mansaf etiquette”. Roll your sleeves up for this manly meal! Truly though, we enjoy that this traditional meal that puts a tear in your eye because it’s a shared family meal. Pro tip if you marry an Arab: If someone offers you a bite of this meal with their hand, you better take it! It’s love!
The girls totally realized they can’t hang as late as Arab. We realized the Arab world comes a live at night. They truly know how to party and were over here like grandmas. And all the things are out... the fruits and nuts and playing cards! But you might catch us snoozing through it all!
It took a while to understand and respect each others cultures but we got there! Nicole’s husband needed her to wear bathroom slippers. Because you totally can’t have the same feet in the house and in the bathroom, right? Some things you wanna share with the other person… just won’t work!
Have you ever seen the movie "A Christmas Story", where the kid is layered with tons of winter clothes? Make sure your kids are dressed this way if there is the slightest chill in the air! Monica and Nicole’s husbands and in-laws seem to keep the thermostat on a lock-down because they're always cold! Also make sure girls, that you perform your wudu just right! Nicole now laughs about how her husband used to watch her like a hawk. We totally LOVE that they are coming from a good place. Its quirky and funny things like that we laugh about!
We love how much our husbands make their family NUMBER ONE! Monica knew she had married a good man because of how much he loved and cared for his mama, and Nicole felt the same way. They both love how their husbands have such an important place in their hearts for FAMILY! Alhamdulillah!
PS. Girls… if your married to an Arab.. your sink might hate your husbands beard! LOL!
